How much Christ suffers in his own Church…25 March 2005 Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI
From Father Gobbi’s annual circular letter to the National and Regional directors of the Marian Movement of Priests http://www.mmp-usa.net/
“I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” (Mt. 16:19)
The” power of the keys” – that is, to govern the entire Church as supreme Pastor – was conferred upon Peter and to his Successors, the whole Church must respond with the duty to obey.
The path of obedience and of humility is the one traced out by Our Lady to make the Church emerge from the profound crisis in which she (the Church) finds herself.
“… how much Christ suffers in his own Church (…) How much filth there is in the Church, and even among those who, in the Priesthood, ought to belong entirely to HIm!
How much pride, how much self-complacency!
What litttle respect we pay to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, where He waits for us,
ready to raise us up whenever we fall!
All this is present in His Passion, His betrayal by His disciples, their unworthy rececption of His Body and Blood, is certainly the greates suffering endured by the Redeemer; it pierces His Heart.“
