The role of prophecy in the Church- Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger on the occasion of the presentation of the Third Secret of Fatima to the world

Posted on May 31, 2008. Filed under: Uncategorized |

In Matthew’s gospel, Our Lord complains that “You know how to read the face of the sky, but you cannot read the signs of the times” (Mt 16:3). Prompted by this complaint, Our Lord wept over the Great King’s city with this lament:
Jerusalem! Jerusalem! Killer of the prophets! Stoner of those who were sent to you! How often I wanted to gather together your children as a hen gathers her brood under her wings — and you would not! (Lk 13:34).
The role of prophecy in the Church was clearly explained by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger on the occasion of the presentation to the world of The Third Secret of Fatima:
The Apostle [Paul] says: “Do not quench the Spirit, do not despise prophesying, but test everything, holding fast to what is good” (1 Thess 5: 19-21). In every age the Church has received the charism of prophecy, which must be scrutinized but not scorned. On this point, it should be kept in mind that prophecy in the biblical sense does not mean to predict the future but to explain the will of God for the present, and therefore show the right path to take for the future.
The prophetic word is a warning or a consolation, or both together. In this sense there is a link between the charism of prophecy and the category of “the signs of the times,” which Vatican II brought to light anew: “You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky; why, then, do you not know how to interpret the present time?” (Lk 12:56). In this saying of Jesus, the “signs of the times” must be understood as Jesus Himself. To interpret the signs of the times in the light of faith means to recognize the presence of Christ in every age. In the private revelations approved by the Church this is the point: they help us to understand the signs of the times and to respond to them rightly in faith (The Message of Fatima, Theological Commentary, Public Revelation and Private Revelations — Their Theological Status; Vatican City, Libreria Editrice Vaticana, © 2000, p. 36).

Iconic Monstrance
Our Lady of the Sign – Ark of Mercy

Saint Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church here will unveil what is believed to be
the world’s largest monstrance at 6 p.m. eastern time Saturday, May 31.

A monstrance is a container that displays a consecrated Host
(which Catholics believe is the body of Christ under the appearance of bread)
for adoration.

The monstrance will serve as focal point of the new Sanctuary of
The Divine Mercy, to be built on the grounds of this inner city parish.

The gilded receptacle has taken sculptor Stefan Niedorezo two years
to carve from linden wood using Renaissance methods.
The iconic monstrance is nine feet tall and weighs 700 pounds.
Malgorzata Sawczuk applied the gilding and serves as project conservator.

The monstrance depicts the Blessed Mother as the link between the old and new covenants.
She stands over the Ark of the Covenant, a sacred container
that held the stone tablets inscribed with the 10 Commandments.

Mary is “clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet,
and on her head a crown of twelve stars,” as depicted in the
Book of Revelation (Rev 11:19 and 12:1-2).

Public is invited to the ceremony, which will be televised live on EWTN,
the worldwide Catholic television network; Catholic TV;
and the Latin American TV station El Sembrador.
Relevant Radio will provide U.S. coverage.
Mass will be celebrated by Cardinal Francis George, Archbishop of Chicago.

The vision for the sanctuary and monstrance began nine years ago
when St. Stanislaus Kostka pastor Fr. Anthony Bus, CR,
heard a call from Mary asking that he build the sanctuary.
He wrote a book about his experience titled
A Mother’s Plea: Lifting the Veil in Sanctuary (Marian Press).

The book, originally published in 2005, has been a popular title in Catholic book circles partly because of its apocalyptic theme.

Donations and proceeds from Fr. Bus’s book financed sculpting the monstrance.
Following the unveiling, planners will begin raising funds to build the sanctuary.
Estimated cost is between $15 million and $20 million.

The moment your greeting sounded in my ears….

Posted on May 31, 2008. Filed under: Uncategorized |

And Mary rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste into a city of Juda. And she entered into the house of Zachary, and saluted Elizabeth.
St. Luke 1: 39-40
Hail Mary

And it came to pass, that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
St. Luke 1: 41
Hail Mary

And she cried out with a loud voice, and said: “Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”
St. Luke 1: 42-43
Hail Mary

“For behold as soon the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed art thou that hast believed, because those things shall be accomplished that were spoken to thee by the Lord.”
St. Luke 1: 44-45
Hail Mary

And Mary said: “My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid. . . . “
St. Luke 1: 46-48
Hail Mary

“For behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. Because he that is mighty, hath done great things for me; and holy is his name.”
St. Luke 1: 48-49
Hail Mary

“And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him. He hath shewed might in his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.”
St. Luke 1: 50-51
Hail Mary

“He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.”
St. Luke 1: 52-53
Hail Mary

“He hath received Israel his servant, being mindful of his mercy: As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed for ever.”
St. Luke 1: 54-55
Hail Mary

And Mary abode with her about three months; and she returned to her own house.
St. Luke 1: 56
Hail Mary

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins; save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, and help especially those most in need of Thy mercy.

Come, Holy Spirit, come by means of the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Thy well beloved Spouse.

Grace of the mystery of the Visitation, come down into my soul and make it truly charitable.

Prayer of Reparation to the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus-from Vultus Christi

Posted on May 31, 2008. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Prayer of Reparation to the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus
O Lord Jesus Christ present in this wonderful sacrament, I desire at this hour to make reparation to Thy Eucharistic Heart and to open myself to Thy Love for the sake of those who refuse or ignore it.
Increase Thou my faith, that I may believe firmly in the truths and mysteries Thou hast revealed to Thy Church, for the sake of those who do not believe.
By my attention to Thy Eucharistic Heart, I desire to make up for indifference to Thy Love, for coldness, and for irreverence in Thy sacramental presence.
By my gratitude to Thy Eucharistic Heart, I desire to make up for ingratitude toward Thee Who remainest hidden and forgotten in the tabernacles of so many locked churches.
By my trust in Thy Eucharistic Heart, I desire to make up for those who do not trust Thee, for those are afraid to trust Thee, and for those whose trust in Thy Love has been weakened by sins of scandal, by the weight of life’s hardships, or by painful loss.
By my hope in Thy Eucharistic Heart, I desire to help those tempted to despair of Thy Mercy.Allow me, I beseech Thee, to hope for those who have no hope and, because Thou didst pour out Thy Blood for them, let not one of them be lost.
In spite of my weakness and inconstancy, I desire, by this humble act of reparation to obtain for all who yearn for Thy friendship, a share in the unspeakable sweetness experienced by Thy beloved disciple Saint John when he rested his head upon Thy Heart on the night before Thy Sacred Side was opened by the soldier’s lance.
Let my desire to be open to the Love of Thy Eucharistic Heart serve to repair the brokenness of the most wounded and fragile members of Thy Mystical Body.
By the mysterious workings of Thy Holy Spirit and the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, let the reparation and adoration Thou hast inspired me to offer in Thy presence bring reconciliation to those alienated from Thy Church, healing to souls in need of Thy mercy, and choice graces to Thy priests. Amen.

Prayer to St Joseph for a Particular Priest

Posted on May 31, 2008. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Saint Joseph,I present to you this dayFather N.,
priest of Jesus Christ,
and beg you to be to him
advocate and defender,counselor and friend.
Open your heart to him
as you opened your home to the Virgin Mother
in her hour of need.
Protect his holy priesthood
as you protected the life of the Infant Jesus
threatened by cruel Herod.
In darkness bring him light;
in weakness, strength,
and in fear the peace that passes understanding.
For the sake of the tender love that bound you
to the Virgin Mary and the Infant Christ,
be for him, Saint Joseph, a constant intercessor
and a shield against every danger
of body, mind, and soul
so that, in spite of his weaknesses and sins,
his priesthood may bring glory to Jesus Christ
and serve to increase the beauty of holiness
in his bride the Church.
Amen.

From Vultus Christi
Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests Main
